VOLUNTEERING

Guide dogs are responsible for the safety of people with visual impairment.

1. Puppy walking

    A 8~9 week-old puppy born at a guide dog school is taken care of and goes through the process of socialization. These volunteers are unpaid volunteers called "Puppywalkers".

    It will be good chance to learn taking care of dogs.

  • Supporting

    • ¨ç There is a local education(home visit) and campus education once a month.
    • ¨è Supplies(excluding some consumables), medicines and medical bills are provided.

    Qualifications

    • ¨ç You should actively participate according to the school's educational guidelines.
      • If the training guidelines are not implemented, volunteer will be changed by school.
    • ¨èVolunteers(homemaker) need to spend a lot of time on activities.
      • Freelancers such as translators, writers and instructors may be restricted.
    • ¨é We educate volunteers on dog toileting, meals, bathing, health care, behaviors, etc.
      • Retriever dogs especially puppies are playful and inquisitive mischievous
           so you should always observe them.
    • ¨ê You should provides various experiences to puppy based on public places such as shopping malls and public transportation.
      • According to the Disabled Welfare Act, Puppy walkers can enter public places.
    • ¨ë You should live in Seoul or Capital area.
      • You can drive for puppy's socialization.
    • ¨ì You should stay indoors(apartments are available)
      • The yard have to be equipped with a over 1m safety fence.
    • ¨í Preschoolers are not availabled(recommended for ages 10 or over)
    • ¨î You don't have other dogs.
    • ¨ï You should be no health problems(allergy, rhinitis) as dog's hair loss is severe.
    • ¨ð It requires physical strength to handle active and powerful dogs that weighs more than 20kg at the age of 7 to 8 months.

    Process

    • ¨ç Phone interview : Check the qualification
    • ¨è Interview : Trainer visits the house to check the environment.
      • It takes 6months to 3years to interview.
    • ¨é Puppy walking : We let you know the result 1 month before the start.

2. Retired dog home care

    Taking care of retired guide dogs at your home
  • Supporting

    • ¨ç Medicines and medical bills are provided.
    • ¨è The trainers visit once a year for follow up and provide health checkup.

    Qualifications

    • ¨ç You should actively participate according to the school's educational guidelines.
      • If the training guidelines are not implemented, volunteer will be changed by school.
    • ¨è There must be an adult guardian at home.
      • If career vacates a house regularly, volunteering is restricted.
    • ¨é You should take care of them on dog toileting, meals, bathing, health care, behaviors, etc.
    • ¨ê You should walk with dog periodically.
    • ¨ë You should live in Seoul or Capital area for follow up and checkup.
      • You should be able to drive.
    • ¨ì You should stay indoors(apartments are available)
      • The yard have to be equipped with a over 1m safety fence and
           retired dogs are always stay indoors.
    • ¨í You should be no health problems(allergy, rhinitis) as dog's hair loss is severe.
    • ¨î You should stay with dogs are powerful and over 25kg.
    • ¨ï It is difficult to be volunteer if you have preschoolers or have other dogs.

      • It takes 6months to 2years to interview.
    • ¨é Homecare : After education homecare is started.

3. Kennel Volunteer

    Volunteers visit school's kennel and take care of dogs once a week.
  • Supporting

    • ¨ç We provide you clothes and meals.
    • ¨è We enroll your volunteering hours at 1365.

    Qualifications

    • ¨ç You should obey kennel management guidelines.
    • ¨è You must be adults over 19 years old (Graduated high school)
      • It is restricted if you want to volunteer with your childen under 19ages.
    • ¨é You should be able to come school once a week for at least 2 months.
      • It's available on weekdays and weekends.
    • ¨ê You can choose from 2 to 8 hours between 8 and 17.
    • ¨ë The volunteer activities are as below.
      • Caring : Meals, dog toileting, grooming, bathing, walking etc.
      • Environment management : Cleaning, disinfection
    • ¨ì Check the route to the school(Everland in Yong-in city).
      • It takes 7 to 8 minutes from the main gate of Everland
           when using public transportation.
    • ¨í You should be no health problems(allergy, rhinitis) as dog's hair loss is severe.
    • ¨î It is difficult to be volunteer if you are worker at animal related occupation like veterinary clinic or zoo.

    Process

    • ¨è Interview : You should visit school and take interview.
    • ¨é Volunteering : You can start volunteering at selected day.
